Custom Design Process
Step 1: Design Consultation
We love collaborating with our clients to create one-of-a-kind jewelry. You will work directly with our Custom Design Consultant to discuss your ideas—whether in person, by email, or over the phone. It’s always helpful to bring along inspiration images, such as jewelry you’ve admired online or styles and design elements you enjoy. If you don’t have a specific vision yet, we will thoughtfully guide you through the process and help bring the perfect design to life.
Step 2: Design & Gemstone Selection
Together with your Custom Design Consultant, you will refine the details, specifications, and budget of your piece. We’ll use sketches or images to develop the design. If gemstone sourcing is required, a deposit will be applied toward your purchase. For heirloom stones, a $200 fee covers testing, removal, and inspection to ensure the stones are suitable and safe for setting.
Step 3: Drawings, Modeling & Approval
Once the design concept is finalized, we will provide hand-drawn sketches and an estimated quote. If needed, we can also create a 3D rendering so you can see the design from every angle. Unlimited revisions are included until you are completely satisfied. If you choose not to proceed, only a $200 design fee will apply.
Step 4: Jewelry Production
After final approval, your piece enters production. All payments made during the design phase are applied to the final cost, and a 50% non-refundable deposit is required to begin. During production, your jewelry is cast, set, polished, and finished with the fine details you selected.
The typical timeframe is 6–8 weeks, though rush orders may be available for an additional fee. Each AFRA custom piece includes a complimentary appraisal. Once complete, we will share photos and videos, and deliver your jewelry by mail—or in person if you are near Austin, Texas.
